The worst part of leaving any expense app is the sunk cost: years of expenses, running balances, that one unsettled amount from the ski trip. Splitpond reads a group export, shows the people, currency, reconstructed entries, and every warning before saving anything. Supported rows keep their dates, descriptions, combined totals, and balances.

Step 1 — Export from Splitwise

Open your group at secure.splitwise.com → group settings → "Export as spreadsheet". You'll get a CSV file.

Step 3 — Share the new link

After reviewing and confirming the preview, send the new group link to everyone; nobody creates an account or installs anything. Keep the original CSV until you have checked the imported totals and final balances against Splitwise.

What imports, precisely

  • Member names from the group export — no emails needed here
  • Readable expenses with their date, description, and combined amount
  • Readable settle-up payments, kept as payments
  • Final balances and combined totals checked to the cent by import tests

A Splitwise CSV only exposes each person's net change, not each payer's original gross contribution. Multi-payer rows are therefore reconstructed as clearly labelled parts; their combined total and everyone's balance remain exact, and the preview explains the limitation. Unreadable rows are skipped only with a visible warning.

Splitpond groups currently support one currency, so mixed-currency exports are blocked before anything is saved. Negative expenses and refunds are also blocked rather than guessed. Comments, receipt images, and Splitwise accounts are not present in the CSV and cannot come across. If Splitpond isn't for you, export the resulting group as JSON free.
