If you landed here, you probably hit one of Splitwise's walls: the free plan's daily cap on adding expenses, the full-screen ads on the free plan, receipt scanning locked behind the paid Pro subscription, or the discovery that getting your data out is much harder than putting it in. What to look for in a replacement
- No expense limits. The whole point of an expense tracker is adding expenses. A cap on that is a cap on the product working.
- No accounts required. The best group tools work like a shared doc: one link, everyone's in. Your friends shouldn't have to sign up to pay you back.
- An exit door. If an app can import your old data but can't export it, that's not a feature, it's a trap. Look for full-history export, free.
- Honest pricing. Server costs are real; subscriptions for basic features are not. Pay-once upgrades are the fair middle ground.

Moving is the easy part
Splitwise lets you export any group as a CSV spreadsheet (here's exactly where the button is). Drop that file on the Splitpond homepage and you get a new group link with your full history — every expense, every payment, balances matching to the cent. Send the link to your group and you're done; nobody re-registers anything.
Honest caveats
Splitpond is deliberately simpler than Splitwise: there's no mobile app (the site works well on phones), no currency conversion yet, and no comment threads on expenses. If you need those today, Tricount or Spliit may fit better — both are good products, and your export CSV works as an escape hatch either way.
